Irish Dance Class. (St Andrews school only) WEDNESDAYS 1-2pm.

This class caters for all St Andrews Junior students. It is held in the study prefab outside the Irish classes in the Senior school.

All younger children are collected from their classrooms and brought to dance lessons.  All older students usually make their own way down to meet with me outside the Irish classrooms where we prepare for class.

This is a fun and energetic class. Each child learns the basic Irish Dance movements and always enjoy moving on to the fast moving steps and hard shoe dancing.  Children will learn soft and hard shoe dancing, reels, jigs, hornpipes etc.

Dance classes help improve on listening skills, self esteem, coordination, balance and posture.

As I am passionate about my dancing I enjoy passing on my love for Irish music and dance and the Irish culture which is important for all children to experience.

This class encourages your child to be the best they can be.

Each child will need a pair of Irish dance shoes and a skipping rope for class. These are available on our package deals if you need them under shop. It is not compulsory to buy shoes through us however I recommend it. I like to fit beginners with a little space whereas I find others can fit too tight. Also going forward if you do take on a little competition you have the correct shoes we require and do not need to change from the style you have. Irish dance shoes are preferable to ballet as Irish dancing is a much more energetic form of dance which takes the whole body weight at all times. Irish dance shoes are made with the proper support for your child’s foot.

I would like all the children to wear the dance outfit.  This consists of an easy to pull up black circular skirt and a club t shirt.  It is also great to have this when we are called on by the school for shows or when you can join in our extra activities outside the school from time to time.  Skirt €20 and t shirt €15.  dance socks €5 and soft dance shoes €35.  I will be able to supply these to the children in class.  Also I will have shoes with me next week at class.  Hope to see you all then.

From the age of four I have had a passionate love for Irish dancing. Knowing as far back as then that I was going to make teaching my career in the future I continued to dance my way through life and enjoyed every minute of it. I danced with the great Erin O’ Dalaigh and competed in many major events All Irelands, World Championships, festivals and shows. I successfully passed the T.C.R.G examination in 1988, which joined with my Childcare qualifications made a great combination to starting up and teaching the tens of thousands of children and adults to date. I work extremely hard as a full time teacher, teaching in areas such as Crèche’s, Schools, Special needs, foreign students, Adults private step dance classes and workshops throughout the World. I am delighted with the excellent standards achieved in my career to date. World Champion,European Champions,Irish National,Great Britain,North American Champion and many many Leinster Champions. Also our excellent teams of Ceile Champions. I am ecstatic with my achievement in taking the 2013 World Championship title under 18 ladies and also the placing of our excellent Ceili teams. I like to run a school of excellence and perfection which proves well in areas such as shows, festivals and especially competition. I love passing on my love of music and dance to others. This is my path in life and what I was born to do. I believe with the right teacher every child can dance. I believe all children should be treated the same no matter what their ability.
