Costumes
What does a dancer need to wear for class?
We would like all beginners to purchase and wear to class the club shorts, t/shirt and dance socks. We would like all gear worn to have the Fegan crest on them. All available in our dance shop on site. There are also a lot of extra Fegan Academy tops, shorts, skirts and jackets available at any time if you need extra gear. Every dancer should also have their own skipping rope also available in our dance shop.
As we now have our own Academy venue we would like all children to wear their club gear to all classes.
All beginners may start class feis events in our black gear which you wear to class.
Black circular skirt €20
Black club t shirt approx €15
Dance socks €5
This above uniform can also be used to start off the first grade in open feiseanna. Sometimes depending on the stage the child is at and the age of the child they may feel more comfortable in a costume of some sort.
From the black outfit we have three different costumes. Two available in second hand outfits and a new dress recently designed for all the under 11’s.
Depending on age and standard we can advise which outfit to go with.
1) A little purple and white skirt, waistcoat, shawl and blouse. Approx €35 upwards.
2) White dress costume with the Fegan crest on the front. Second hand from €150 upwards. New €500. No new ones available.
3) The newly designed dress which is a light little dress, very pretty. Price €200 with hairband. This can be ordered at anytime. All children are fitted.
Open dresses:
After completing beginner grades in one of the four above outfits children will then move on to their very own solo dress. These also can be bought second hand or of course new. Usually at this stage your child should be serious about her dancing, taking many classes. These dresses can be sold on,
Dance Shoes:
What shoes do I need for class?
All beginners should purchase a pair of soft dance pomps (available in dance shop in studio) DanceLand. We like to fit comfortable at this stage not too small so the children can get use to them. Approx €30
When your child advances we will inform you when to purchase hard shoes. Approx €65
Both shoes above can also be purchased second hand if we have them in stock at the time.
Training runners: Some of the children who take a few classes in the week like to give the foot a break and use the training runner. They are a few kinds of training runners and anyone can be used at this stage. Not compulsory for beginners.
In the Winter it is good to wear the stirrup leg warmer until children are warmed up in class.
It is important that everyone has their shoes coming and going from class. The hall will now be getting busier and nothing should be left behind at the end of class as you may not see it again. Please have your shoes clearly marked, especially your soft shoes.
Advanced students
Feis pomp’s should be well fitted. A nice tight fit, as a lot of these shoes can stretch. However sometimes it may be hard to use your small fitted pair in class and if they keep falling off in class you will need to have a second pair not so tight. Dancing in your socks and bare feet is not good for the body and causes injuries. You must train your feet into your shoes.
Hard Shoes It is important to get use to your hard shoes. Taking them on and off is not good. Soften them up by putting them on everyday at home. Do not be looking for an easy way out by taking them off.
Training runners: It is important that everyone has a pair of training runners. These are used to change into from time to time when the feet are sore and also the head from the noise of hard shoes. Ha Ha!!!! All shoes are needed at every class.
You are under no obligation to buy shoes from our shop on site. However I do find sometimes that shoe shops and other dance shops fit beginners too tight for their first pair of shoes. This is maybe that they will come back for another pair soon. Who knows? I feel you can give a bit of room the first time out. Also we do like to have a certain shoe for feis events and if your child takes to dance quickly and then ends up in feiseanna he/she will have the correct shoes going forward and not need another pair.

Make up and False tan.
Make or false tan may not be used by any child in performance in any grade under the age of ten years. Children over 12 may wear make up in all grades. Make up and false tan is not compulsory.
A dancers make up bag should consist of the following:
Foundation (dark) & brush or sponge
Powder & brush
Bronzer & brush
Eye shadow & brushes
Blush
Mascara
Liquid & pencil liner
Lip liner
Lip stick
Lip gloss
Wigs are not compulsory for feis events. However at the Fegan Academy we do like the full wig and it adds to the overall look. Beginners are not expected to wear wigs. It can be nice to make an effort and to curl the hair for a feis. We do sell rollers in the dance shop. A lot of schools wear the bun wig. I must say we are lovers of the bun wig. However saying that we are not against you trying one out. As you move up in the grades you may find yourself joining the academy of wigs. Who knows! It is not all that bad and a wig can create a fabulous look in minutes. How you present yourself on stage is very important. After training so hard at class it is important to look your best in competition. In our Academy some girls may train up to six times a week and dancing out against maybe up to 150 of the top competition in the world it is important to stand out in every way.
